Sustainability and Origin

Those who depend on nature have a responsibility to protect it. At Proud Farmer, sustainability means healthy pastures, responsible animal husbandry and treating both animals and the landscape with respect. The principles our shepherds live by every day are reflected in the origins and certifications of our products.

Origin: Australia

Raised on Australia’s Pastures

Australia’s vast landscapes and extensive pastures provide excellent conditions for sheep farming. The animals are raised outdoors and spend their lives on pasture. What matters to Proud Farmer is that the sheep are raised under natural conditions and that the people who care for them take responsibility for both the animals and the land.

Origin: New Zealand

From Family Farms and Open Pastures

The animals come from selected family farms across different regions of New Zealand. There, they are raised entirely outdoors on a grass-fed diet and under natural conditions.

Our suppliers work closely with these farms and have built long-standing relationships with them. They know the shepherds personally, as well as their land and the care with which the animals are raised. This creates a direct connection between the farms and our suppliers rather than an anonymous supply chain.

New Zealand’s temperate climate, fertile soils and extensive pastures provide ideal conditions for sheep farming. What matters to Proud Farmer is that the animals are raised outdoors and that the shepherds take responsibility for both their animals and their land.

Origin: Chile

Sheep Farming in Southern Chile

The Magallanes region in southern Chile is characterised by vast landscapes, a rugged climate and extensive pastures. The sheep are raised outdoors and are well adapted to these natural conditions. What matters to Proud Farmer is that the animals are raised in good conditions and that the shepherds take responsibility for both the animals and the land.

One example of this approach to sheep farming is Jorge Canepa’s San Isidro farm in Tierra del Fuego
Jorge Canepa is the third generation to run the San Isidro farm in Tierra del Fuego. For him, sheep farming is more than a profession. It is a way of life, shaped by the daily care of the animals and responsibility for the land on which they live.

Watching the lambs being born, grow and develop is one of the most rewarding aspects of his work. At the same time, sheep farming means taking care of natural resources and preserving the landscape for the long term.

Because only sustainable sheep farming has a future. Jorge wants to run San Isidro in a way that allows the next generation to take over the farm one day with the same joy and passion.

Transport

Freshness Preserved Every Step of the Way

To ensure that our meat from Australia, Chile or New Zealand reaches your freezer in perfect condition, a carefully maintained, uninterrupted cold chain with continuous temperature monitoring is essential.

The meat is blast-frozen directly at the producers to preserve its freshness and flavour as effectively as possible. It is then loaded into refrigerated containers and kept at temperatures below -20°C. From there, it travels safely by cargo ship to the port before completing the final stage of its journey to our facility by lorry.

Once it arrives, the meat undergoes a quality inspection before being processed and packaged without delay. This care, attention to quality and direct supply chain ensure the exceptional freshness you experience in every pack.

Animal Welfare

From Pasture Landscapes with a Long Tradition

Expansive grasslands, natural sources of feed and plenty of space to roam shape the way our lambs are raised. Extensive pasture farming allows the animals to live in a way that reflects their natural behaviour and has been part of traditional sheep farming for generations.

Clear proof of origin and independent certifications provide transparency and reassurance. Our IFS certification demonstrates that we meet high standards of quality and food safety. In addition, Proud Farmer regularly has its sustainability performance assessed by EcoVadis.
